Bowie Jones Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier Adult Male in Tallahassee, Florida

My story
MEET BOWIE JONES. He is a sweet little male yorkie who is 6 years old and weighs a healthy 6-1/2 lbs. Bowie Jones is being fostered in Tallahassee, FL.All dogs fostered in the state of Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.UPDATED BIO 12/16/2021: Bowie was surrendered to a vet's office to be euthanized 3 months ago because the owners were no longer able to care for this sweet & precious boy. He desperately needed a dental (he lost all his remaining teeth) and neuter which have been done; sadly, Bowie was also heartworm positive. The vet contacted United Yorkie Rescue to see if we could bring Bowie into our group, and of course we said YES!FAST FORWARD 14 weeks: Bowie has completed his heartworm treatment following the protocol established by the American Heartworm Society. Bowie must remain in his foster home until he tests negative for microfilariae (baby heartworms) around the first week of January. He has tolerated the heartworm treatment with no problems whatsoever which is a testament to the strength and courage of this precious little boy.Bowie was a very fearful and timid little boy when he first arrived in his foster home 14 weeks ago. He would crouch when his foster parents approached him and bury his head in his front paws. He initially preferred to isolate himself from both humans and the resident dogs in the home most of the time. His foster mom believes that he had been kept outside all of his life, and maybe even mistreated, which is profoundly sad.Bowie has gained much more confidence and is now very engaged with his foster parents. He is even trying to initiate play with the senior 16 year old dog in the home, who would prefer to lie in her warm bed and sleep lol! Bowie loves sleeping next to her awwwww. He will come up to his foster mom for petting, but still tends to crouch a bit when petted, although he is getting much more accepting of this attention. He is not as confident with men at this point, but is getting much better. He does crave human interaction and wants to be close to his foster mom.Bowie loves being outside in his fenced-in yard and is always reluctant to come in when called. It appears that Bowie has never been taught proper potty protocol, and his foster mom is diligently working with him on this. This will need to be reinforced in his adoptive home as well. He is also learning to walk confidently on a leash, but there are so many smells along the way that keep distracting him lol! Bowie is a very VERY sweet little boy who is so deserving of a loving forever home with patient and caring parents where he will receive lots of love and attention.Although Bowie will not be cleared for adoption for several more weeks, if you are interested in adopting him, please contact his foster mom for more details, or submit an adoption application which will be acknowledged and held until he has completed his heartworm treatment.Bowie's heartworm treatment is costing hundreds of dollars, so we are reaching out to our angel donors and asking for donations to cover this large expense. UYR would never turn away a potential foster dog that has tested positive for heartworms, and your donation(s) will enable us to continue to rescue and treat other incoming foster dogs that may be heartworm positive.PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE APPLYING FOR BOWIE JONES:- Due to Bowies small size, he cannot go into a home with children under the age of 14 years old.- Bowie is following the lead of the resident dogs in the home, and his foster mom thinks that he would be happiest in a home with another calm, confident and loving brother or sister close to his age and size who can be a playmate for Bowie.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bowie Jones, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
